LEWISBURG, Pa. - Hosting its second home tournament in three weeks, the Bucknell women's tennis team opened its own weekend invitational Friday by advancing four singles players to the finals of their brackets. Additionally, three Bucknell doubles squads won a match and are in the semifinals following the first day of competition.

Maria Cioffi, Stephanie Pino, Michele Urbinati and Jorie Fox each went 2-0 on Friday and will compete in the finals of their respective brackets later this weekend. Cioffi, Pino and Urbinati each won both of her matches in straight sets, while Fox lost her first set in the semis and then came back to win the second 6-0 before claiming the tiebreaker 10-3.

Cioffi teamed with Urbinati to win their first-round doubles match 8-5. Pino and Lydia Colvin advanced to the semifinal on the other side of the bracket thanks to an 8-1 win.

Melissa Parks, who posted a 1-1 record in singles play, teamed with Fox in doubles play and won 8-0 and are now in the semifinals of the other doubles draw.

The Bucknell Invitational is scheduled to continue Saturday on the Bucknell Tennis Courts outside Gerhard Fieldhouse. Student-athletes from Bloomsburg, Mount St. Mary's and Villanova are the teams competing alongside the Bison.
