LEWISBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Stephanie Pino had a hand in two of Bucknell's four flight wins at the Bucknell Invitational women's tennis tournament, which wrapped up Saturday before the rains arrived. Pino won the Blue Flight in singles and also teamed with junior Lydia Colvin for a doubles title, while freshmenMichele Urbinati and Jorie Fox also claimed singles victories to cap off a successful weekend for the Bison.
Villanova, Mount St. Mary's and Bloomsburg were in town for Bucknell's second home event of the fall tournament season. Pino was completely dominant all weekend, as she won all three of her singles matches in straight sets while never conceding more than three games in any set. On Saturday she topped Villanova's Nicole Coons 6-3, 6-0 in the Blue Flight final.
In doubles, Pino and Colvin defeated their teammates Urbinati and Maria Cioffi 8-4 in the finals of the North Draw. Urbinati and Cioffi were coming off an 8-0 win over Mount St. Mary's in the semifinals.
In the singles White Draw, Urbinati also completed an unblemished tournament where she did not drop a set. In the final she defeated Villanova's Conner Brewer 6-2, 6-2. In the Gray Draw, Fox recovered from a three-setter in the semifinals to roll past Villanova's Giana Mitchell 6-1, 6-2.
"I'm really proud of the way we competed this weekend," said head coach Rebecca Helt afterward. "To make it to the finals of every draw and walk away with four titles is a testament to the work these players are putting in on and off the court."
Cioffi also played a singles final on Saturday in the Orange Draw, and she locked up in quite a bout with Villanova's Mikelle Mancini. Cioffi dropped the first set 6-0, but stormed back to win the second set 6-2. Mancini won a tight third-set supertiebreaker 10-8 to take the title.
Fox and freshman Melissa Parks fell 8-4 in the finals of the Doubles South Draw to Brewer and Annie Cognetti of Villanova.
The Bison women wrap up their fall season Oct. 4-6 at the St. Bonaventure Invitational.
