LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell football RB CJ Williams (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall/Navy Prep) on Wednesday was named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Freshman Performer of the Year Watch List. Williams was one of 32 players recognized and one of just three Patriot League rookies to be cited.
Through three games this season Williams leads the Bison in rushing with 256 yards on 65 carries. He already has the most rushing yards by a Bucknell freshman since 2006 and he became the 74th player in Bison history to rush for 100 yards in a game when he piled up 148 last month vs. Cornell. Williams was the first Bucknell rookie to rush for 100 yards since Rashod Bumpers in 2006.
Williams, who has scored the team’s only rushing touchdown this season, has led the Bison in rushing each of the last two games (Cornell, Sacred Heart) and he earned his first career starting assignment last Saturday against the Pioneers. A versatile running back, Williams also has four catches for 27 yards.
Williams is joined on the CFPA FCS National Freshman Performer of the Year Watch List by fellow Patriot Leaguers Jorge Solano (Fordham) and Peter Pujals (Holy Cross).
Bucknell will open Patriot League play this Saturday, Oct. 5, when it travels to Lafayette for a 3:30 p.m. game.
