LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell swimming and diving program collected three of the Patriot League’s four weekly awards, the league office announced Monday. Senior Mike Nicholson (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) was named the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season, sophomore Emma Levendoski (Mandeville, La./Mandeville) earned Female Swimmer of the Week honors and Katie Hetherington (Houston, Texas/Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart) was named the Female Diver of the Week after strong performances this past weekend in a home meet against Pittsburgh.
Nicholson earned his 13th career Patriot League Swimmer of the Week honor, putting him one shy of equaling Navy’s Adam Meyer’s career standard.
A three-time First Team All-Patriot League selection, Nicholson was Bucknell’s top finisher in each of his events and collected two of the squad’s four victories in Saturday’s meet vs. Pittsburgh. His 400 IM victory came by 2.76 seconds, while his 200 fly win was by .39 seconds. Nicholson also placed fourth in the 100 fly and was part of the second-place 200 medley relay, swimming the third leg in 22.84 seconds.
Levendoski was the only Bison female to win an event against the Panthers and she swept the backstroke races for a third straight meet this season. Her victory in the 100 back was by 1.18 seconds and she touched the wall 2.03 seconds ahead of the runner-up in the 200 back.
Levendoski, the Patriot League champion in the 100 and 200 back last February, was also part of both the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.
Hetherington, the 2013 Patriot League Champion off the three-meter board, earned her ninth career Female Diver of the Week honor after performing well in her first meet of the young season. She was Bucknell’s top finisher off both boards, placing fourth off the one-meter and third off the three-meter. Both scores were the highest by a Bison diver this year.
Both Bison teams dropped decisions to Pittsburgh to fall to 1-1 on the year. The men dropped a 199-99 outcome, while the women fell by a 209-90 margin.
Bucknell will be back in action Nov. 9 when it hosts American, Lafayette and Navy in a quad meet at Kinney Natatorium. Start time is 12 p.m.
