EASTON, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s cross country team combined for 106 points to finish in fourth place  at the 2013 Patriot League Championships, hosted by Lafayette at the school’s Metzgar Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon. All seven of the Bison scorers placed amongst the top 32 runners in the newly expanded field, while conference newcomer Boston University, led by Rosa Moriello’s first place finish, captured the team title.

“Although we are not satisfied with fourth, we do return all of our top runners next year,” said head coach Kevin Donner. “We have a very tight pack that just needed to be about 20 seconds quicker to be right in the thick of things.”

The Terriers scored 47 points to earn their first Patriot League Championship in any sport, while Lehigh ran to a second place finish with 57 points. Navy rounded out the top three with 81 points, and the Bison used their depth to take fourth. Army (5th – 140 points), American (6th – 160 points), Holy Cross (7th – 182 points), Lafayette (8th – 183 points), Loyola (9th – 211 points) and Colgate (10th – 294 points) rounded out the scoring in this year’s race.

Junior Katie Jessee led the Bison on the 6K course, placing 16th with a time of 22:45.29, and she was closely followed by freshman Catherine Scott who captured 20th place with a 22:54.58 performance.

The next Bucknell runners to cross the finish line did so in quick succession, with junior Montana DiPietrantonio (23:00.17) and freshman Sarah Chandler (23:00.74) taking 22nd and 23rd, respectively, and sophomore Deanna Godby (23:03.30) coming in just under three seconds later in the 25th spot.

Junior Alison Lockwood’s time of 23:14.85 placed her 31st, and sophomore Alison Billas rounded out the Bison scorers, running to 32nd place with a time of 23:17.56.

Bucknell will continue its post-season in two weeks with the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. The competition, which will be held at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., is slated for Friday, Nov. 16.
