LEWISBURG, Pa. – Director of athletics and recreation John Hardt has announced the appointment of Dan Isaf as Bucknell’s new associate athletic director for NCAA compliance and student services. Isaf has spent the last eight years working in the NCAA compliance office at Syracuse University after starting out in the legal profession.
“I am very excited to welcome Dan Isaf to our Bison Athletics administrative team,” said Hardt. “Dan has been involved with every element of Syracuse’s NCAA compliance program, and brings a vast knowledge of rules compliance to lead our daily operations in this critical area. At Bucknell, we demand a culture of integrity and adherence to NCAA and Patriot League rules, and I anticipate Dan’s background in the legal field and experiences at Syracuse will contribute immediately to the overall success of Bison Athletics and have a positive impact on our student-services area.”
Isaf earned his bachelor’s degree in 1992 from Hartwick College, where he was a standout student-athlete on the Hawks’ men’s lacrosse team. As a senior he shattered school records for points (85) and assists (70) in a season, and he also graduated as the program’s career assist leader with 108. Isaf then graduated from Suffolk University Law School in 1998. After seven years working at law firms in New York, Illinois and Massachusetts, he returned to the realm of college athletics as a compliance assistant at Syracuse.
Isaf worked his way up from compliance assistant to compliance coordinator to his most recent role as assistant director of compliance. In that post, Isaf was charged with monitoring all aspects of Syracuse’s recruiting efforts. He prepared and submitted waivers and violation reports to the Big East and NCAA offices; he conducted rules education seminars with student-athletes, coaches, staff and community and booster groups; and he oversaw Syracuse’s intern and extern program.
“I would like to thank John Hardt for giving me this opportunity to join the Bucknell University community,” said Isaf. “Bucknell is an outstanding institution, both academically and athletically, and I am excited to begin my role in helping to continue the success of the dedicated Bison student-athletes, coaches and staff.”
Among his many duties at Bucknell, Isaf will be responsible for the management and operations of the department of athletics’ compliance and rules education program for coaches, student-athletes, departmental staff, boosters and university offices, and he will coordinate and monitor the certification of student-athletes’ eligibility and financial aid. He will also oversee the area of student services for the department.
Bucknell is a highly-selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,500 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Boston University, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola Maryland and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents’ Cup, signifying the Patriot League’s all-sports champion, in 18 of 23 years.
Bucknell annually ranks among the national leaders in graduation rate of its student athletes, including a No. 1 ranking in the Fall 2013 report. In addition, Bucknell ranks fifth in Division I in the total number of ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America selections, with 124 national honorees since 1970.
