LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Christian Lupica (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) set two new school records at the Bison Opener on Saturday, and his outstanding showing in the track and field team’s first meet of the season earned him the Patriot League’s first M-F Athletic Male Track Athlete of the Week award of the 2013-14 campaign, as well as Bison Athlete of the Week accolades. This is Lupica’s fifth career weekly award from the conference and the fourth time he has earned the school’s top weekly honor.

Lupica began his record setting day with a speedy performance in the 300 meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 34.62. The mark surpassed his own school record of 34.77, which he set on Jan. 5, 2013 at last season’s Bucknell Mini Meet.

The junior hurdler’s success continued in his second event of the day, as he turned in blazing performances in both the prelims and finals of the 60 meter hurdles. Lupica blew away his prelim heat, finishing with a time of 8.04 and tying the school record that he set at the Youngstown State Invitational in February. He battled through a tough race in the finals of the event, finishing just three one-hundredths of a second behind Trae Proctor to take second place, but his time of 8.03 broke his own school record and qualified him for the IC4A Championships in March.

Lupica and the rest of the Bison will resume competition after the holidays when they host the Bucknell Mini Meet on Saturday, Jan. 11.
