LEWISBURG, Pa.  – The Bucknell women’s basketball freshmen class continues to impress, as forward Claire DeBoer (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) was named Anaconda Sports Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday, marking the third time in four weeks that the award has been earned by a Bison. The forward, who receives the second league honor of her career, previously earned the nod on Dec. 2, while classmate Megan McGurk (West Chester, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) was recognized on Dec. 9 after strong performances against Towson and Penn. DeBoer is the only double honoree amongst Patriot League freshmen.

In Saturday’s 71-47 win over Longwood, DeBoer came alive in the second half, scoring 10 of her 12 points in the final 20 minutes of the contest to help Bucknell pull away for the win and seal a 5-5 non-conference record. The forward, who has played in the starting five for the last seven games, sunk 4-of-9 (.444) from the field and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line, while completing a well-rounded effort with a game-high seven rebounds, a career-high four assists and two steals.

DeBoer has scored in double-digits in four of Bucknell’s ten non-conference games, and currently leads all Patriot League freshmen in scoring, ranking 29th in the conference with 8.7 points per game. Her average of 5.6 rebounds per contest, a number that also tops all rookies, ranks her 20th in the league and she is tied for eighth in field goal percentage, hitting 47.8 of her shots.

DeBoer and the Bison return to action for the start of Patriot League play on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, travelling to Washington, D.C. to take on American in the conference opener for both squads. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Bender Arena.
