WEST POINT, N.Y. – Thanks to five double winners, the Bucknell women’s swimming and diving stretched its winning streak over Army to 13 meets as the Bison defeated the Black Knights 157.5-142.5 Saturday afternoon at Crandall Pool. Ashley Henderson, Katie Hetherington, Emma Levendoski, Rachel McGoff and Kelly Pontecorvo posted two wins apiece for Bucknell, which improved to 6-2 on the season and 5-0 against Patriot League foes.

The Bison won 10 of the 16 events and built a large cushion in the team score, holding a 149.5-114.5 advantage heading into the final two events of the day.

Henderson’s two victories came in the breaststroke events as she finished 1-2 with Diana Hanson in the 100 breast and 1-2 in the 200 breast with Meg Lattimer. It marked the first time this season Henderson has swept the breaststroke races in a meet.

Hetherington swept the diving competitions for the second time this season, finishing one spot ahead of teammate Tara Boyle off both boards. Hetherington’s score of 245.62 off the three-meter was her third-highest of the season, while her 265.12 off the three-meter was nearly 32 points better than Boyle.

Levendoski posted wins in both backstroke races for the eighth time this season. She has finished first or second in each of her 18 backstroke competitions this year. On Saturday, she won the 100 back by 1.93 seconds and the 200 back by 2.45 seconds.

McGoff, the lone freshman winner in the group, swept the 100 and 200 free. It marked her fourth sweep of the season in those events.

Pontecorvo, the 2013 Patriot League Champion in the 1,650 free, continued her dominance in the distance freestyle events, winning the 500 and 1,000 frees. She now has 12 total victories in those two events this season. Pontecorvo was one spot ahead of teammate Stephanie Koziol in the 500 and two spots ahead of Melissa Besman in the 1,000.

In addition to her two backstroke wins, Levendoski was on Bucknell’s top finishing 200 medley relay (second) and 400 free relay (third) teams. Henderson, Kristen Purdy and Kaitlyn Utkewicz teamed with Levendoski on the 200 medley relay, while Utkewicz, Lauren Perry and McGoff were part of the 400 free relay.

Amber McDonnell (2nd in 200 fly), Utkewicz (4th in 50 free), Purdy (3rd in 100 fly, 3rd in 200 IM) were the top Bison finishers in the remaining events.

Bucknell will have little rest before its next meet as it hosts Binghamton Sunday at 1 p.m. in Kinney Natatorium. Senior Day ceremonies will take place prior to the meet.
