LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bison women's lacrosse team makes its Graham Field debut on Wednesday at 4 p.m. against No. 7/8 Penn State. The Nittany Lions will be playing their first game of the 2014 campaign, while Bucknell is looking to bounce back from an 18-1 loss at No. 13/14 Stony Brook on Saturday. Admission is free for all Bucknell women's lacrosse games.
The Bison were able to generate 10 shots on goal in the game against the defending America East champions, but All-America goalie Frankie Caridi saved nine of them. Sophie Kleinert scored Bucknell's lone goal off a feed from Katelyn Miller.
Bucknell fared well at the draw circle against Stony Brook, claiming 13 of 21. Kleinert led the squad with four draw controls.
Penn State finished 14-7 in 2013 and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the second straight season. The Nittany Lions are currently ranked eighth in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll and seventh in the Brine/Inside Lacrosse media poll. Penn State brings back it its top four scorers and nearly 90 percent of its scoring from a year ago. That includes two IWLCA Second Team All-Americans in Maggie McCormick and Kelly Lechner,
Penn State has won all 17 previous meetings with Bucknell, including an 18-2 verdict last season.
