LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior Christian Lupica (Newtown, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) ran two blazing-fast performances in the 110m hurdles this past weekend, and his outstanding showing in both of Bucknell’s meets earned him the final Patriot League M-F Athletic Male Track Athlete of the Week award of the 2014 outdoor season. This is Lupica’s first weekly award of the outdoor season and the third time in his career that he received the honor.
Lupica began his weekend with a speedy performance in the 110 meter high hurdles at the prestigious Penn Relays on Friday, crossing the line in a time of 14.17. The mark was his best performance of the season and was just two-tenths of a second off his own school record in the event. More impressively, he qualified for IC4As and posted the best time in the Patriot League this season by a wide margin. He was just as quick on Saturday, racing to victory in the same event at the Maroon & Gold Invitational at Bloomsburg, finishing with a time of 14.27.
Lupica and the rest of the Bison are preparing to defend their Patriot League Championship team title this weekend, as they head to Annapolis, Maryland to compete in the conference meet on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.
