Cioffi and Vidrascu Earn Spots on Women's Tennis All-Patriot League Team
Release:   05/06/2014

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women’s tennis team was well-represented on this year’s All-Patriot League team, as it was announced on Tuesday that sophomore Maria Cioffi was selected to the conference’s first team and senior Elena Vidrascu earned a spot on the second team. Both Cioffi, who became the first Bison in 20 years to earn the Patriot League women’s tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year award on Monday, and Vidrascu each received their second selection to the All-League squad.

Cioffi, who was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and selected to the All-Patriot League second team at the conclusion of last season, has been consistently excellent for the Bison during her sophomore campaign, compiling a 19-6 singles record and a 17-6 mark in doubles play. She spent most of her time during the dual season at No. 2 singles, where she played to an 11-2 mark that included a perfect, 5-0 record in Patriot League action.

At the end of the season, Cioffi had won nine straight at No. 2 singles, and her final record of 19-6 tied her for 16th in program history for single-season victories. The sophomore also shot up the all-time charts in all three career categories after only two seasons in the orange and blue and now ranks 16th in all-time victories (83-33), 17th in all-time doubles victories (40-15) and is tied for 18th in all-time singles victories (43-18).

In doubles play, Cioffi and Vidrascu combined at No. 1 doubles for the majority of the season, battling to a 7-5 overall record and a 3-2 mark in conference play.

Vidrascu, who was also voted to the second team last season, earned the role of Bucknell’s No. 1 singles player and handled the pressure well, compiling a 6-7 mark at the top spot, including a 2-3 mark in conference play. The senior finished her final season in the orange and blue with a 10-13 singles record and a 14-7 doubles record, lifting her up the all-time victories chart in all three categories. She ends her career tied for sixth in doubles victories (62-48), ranked ninth in all-time victories (116-106) and in the 11th spot in singles victories (54-58).
