Bison Club Completes Another Milestone Year
Release:   08/01/2014

LEWISBURG, PA – The books have closed on the fiscal year at Bucknell University and the Bison Club once again achieved a record-setting number of annual donors on its way to raising more than $2.2-million in support of the university’s 27 varsity sports programs. The fundraising arm of Bucknell University Athletics, the Bison Club raised $2,216,833 from a record-number of 3,935 donors during the 2013-14 fiscal year.

“The impressive numbers here reflect the hard work of our coaches, Bison Club, Athletics Development staff, and the continued unwavering commitment of our loyal alumni and fans,” director of athletics and recreation John Hardt said. “We are extremely fortunate to have a dedicated core of athletics donors at Bucknell, and I cannot thank them enough for their continued support of our varsity programs. That annual support has a direct impact on the experience our student-athletes enjoy, and on the levels of success we have in the athletic arena as well as in the classroom.”

This is the 11th straight year the Bison Club has topped the $1-million mark, and the second time in the past three years it has been over $2 million. In the past 10 years the Bison Club has raised over $18.4 million in annual support of Bucknell Athletics. The 3,935 donors tops the previous high of 3,781 set back in the 2009-10 fiscal year.

“This success is a combined effort of so many individuals,” said Todd Newcomb ’88, the director of the Bison Club. “With the financial support of our donors and the continued cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts led by our head coaches and fundraising staff, we have raised the bar and exceeded our stated goal.”

In terms of individual sport fundraising, it was by far the most successful year since the Bison Club was restructured back in 2001-02 as a record total of 17 of the 20 programs (list includes all varsity sports plus cheerleading) met their individual fundraising goals. Nine of those programs topped the $100,000 mark, and 18 of the 20 set records in terms of dollars raised in a single year.

A new year with a new Bison Club goal is already underway. If you would like to support Bucknell University Athletics you can log on to the Bucknell Athletics web site at www.bucknellbison.com or contact Todd Newcomb in the Bison Club office at 570-577-1771.
