Ryan Adams returned to Bucknell as an assistant coach on the Bison volleyball staff prior to the 2018 season. He previously worked as an assistant at Bucknell for two seasons from 2014-15.
"I am very excited to welcome Ryan back to our staff,” Allison said. “He is a great person and shares our vision. His knowledge and passion for the game will help us continue to grow."
In Adams’s first stint in Lewisburg, Bucknell totaled 21 wins, including 13 in league play over two seasons. The Bison just missed making the four-team Patriot League Tournament in the 2015 season, going 14-12 overall and 8-8 in the conference. He helped guide the team to its first winning season in nine years.
The 2015 season also had the program’s first All-Patriot League selection in five years as Karen Campbell was voted to the Second Team. She finished her career second in Bucknell history in block assists with 308 and third in total blocks with 388.
After the 2015 season at Bucknell, Adams spent one season (2016) on the coaching staff at William & Mary, while also serving as the head coach of the Williamsburg Volleyball Club 18 National. Five of the players from that club went on to be Division I recruits, while another six were Division III recruits.
Adams spent 2017 as the assistant coach at Princess Anne High School, where he helped the Cavaliers go 27-4 overall and finish as the runner-up in the Virginia State Tournament. He was also the head coach at East Coast Volleyball Club 16 Travel, a team that went 31-16 and was ranked second in the Old Dominion Region.
A 2009 graduate of Cal State Northridge, where he was a volleyball Academic All-American, Adams earned a degree in urban studies and planning. Shortly after graduation he started working as a recreation aide in the City of Issaquah Parks and Recreation Department in Washington State.
Adams took his first college coaching job in the fall of 2012 when he became a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Idaho. He has also spent time as the head coach of Club ZZU in Moscow, Idaho, as an assistant coach for the PSVBA 18s Regional Team in Puyallup, Washington, and as an assistant volleyball coach at Foster High School in Tukwila, Washington.
In addition to his volleyball background, Adams has experience as an assistant facilities manager at Northwest Nazarene and as an academic coordinator at Idaho.
