SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. (Susquehanna River) – The Bucknell women’s rowing program welcomed West Virginia to the Susquehanna River this past weekend for the Skotedis Cup. The varsity eight and second varsity eight boats for both teams squared off in multiple races and the Bison won the title, claiming six of the weekend’s eight races.

The first day of the event featured the second varsity eights racing on a 5,900-meter course with West Virginia winning by 12 seconds. The varsity eights then raced and Bucknell won the 6,000-meter competition by 30 seconds, evening the overall score at 1-1.

The second day of competition consisted of three 1,000-meter races for each boat. Bucknell won two of the three second varsity eight matchups, while the Bison swept all three varsity eight races to claim the Skotedis Cup by a score of 6-2.

The Skotedis Cup is an event named after the late John Skotedis, a successful coach of the Bison men’s and women’s crew programs from 1986-92. He was responsible for mentoring an ambitious group of student-athletes as they successfully petitioned to bring both programs to varsity status. Skotedis learned to row at Temple and then finished his degree at Bucknell.
