LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell ran into a tough Army West Point team led by a career night from freshman Allie Strong in a 3-0 loss in Patriot League volleyball action Friday night at Davis Gym. The Black Knights, who received seven first-place votes in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, recorded the sweep by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-17.
The Black Knights improved to 13-8 overall and 5-2 in the conference, while the Bison dropped to 4-15 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Strong finished with 15 kills and no errors on 21 total attacks for a .714 hitting percentage, while adding three aces. She was coming off an 11-kill, three-ace performance against Lafayette in which she hit .556.
Carolyn Bockrath, a Preseason All-Patriot League selection, tallied 10 kills to join Strong in double-digits. Nikki Lum led the team with 21 assists, while Vanessa Wesley registered a team-high seven total blocks.
Freshman Mimi Richards was the most efficient player on the night for the Bison, finishing with five kills, a .333 hitting percentage and three block assists. Freshman Bridgette Holland and senior Jordan Walker shared the team lead with six kills.
Bucknell returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Holy Cross. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Davis Gym. The Bison have won four of the past five meetings with the Crusaders.
Just two seasons ago, Bucknell and Holy Cross played a thrilling four-set match that the Bison clinched with a 38-36 win in the final set. Current senior Kristen Parks set the program’s single-match digs record with 44.
