LEWISBURG, Pa. – Christine Bendzinski was named Fifth Quarter Fresh Bison Athlete of the Week Monday, following a strong performance in helping the Bucknell women’s track and field team capture its 17th indoor title in program history.
Bendzinski played an integral role in helping the Bison claim their first indoor championship since 2015 at Boston University, setting program and Patriot League records in two events.
On day two of the league championships, Bendzinski teamed up with Sarah Chandler, Emma Harris and Margaret Sliney in the 4x800-meter relay, winning the gold medal with a time of 8:50.38, breaking the previous school and league mark set last season that also featured the trio of Bendzinski, Chandler and Harris.
On the final day, Bendzinski won the 3,000m in dramatic fashion, coming from behind to win the race with a time of 9:27.37, smashing her own school record of 9:39.92 and the Patriot League best of 9:38.22 set in 2014.
It was one of two individual titles for the junior, as she won the gold in the mile for the third consecutive year, winning the race in 4:57.05.
Bendzinski continues to add on to an already impressive resume in a Bison uniform. Reflecting on her indoor success, she has claimed the gold in five individual races, while earning First Team All-Patriot League honors three times in the 4x8 relay.
The Patriot League champs wrap up the indoor season Mar. 4-5 when the squad returns to Boston to compete in the ECAC Indoor Championships.
