DAVIDSON, N.C. – Seven different Bison recorded a hit while right-hander Connor Van Hoose pitched 6.2 scoreless innings Friday to defeat Davidson 8-0 at Wilson Field.
Bucknell (3-4) produced 13 hits in the victory, as six Bison finished with two hits each. Luke Johnson and Keifer Rawlings recorded two RBIs apiece, while Brett Smith, Danny Rafferty and Sam Clark each scored a pair of runs.
Van Hoose (1-2) picked up his first win of the year, helping Bucknell post its second consecutive shutout. The junior scattered five hits while striking out nine and walking one. Nate Grisius (1.1) and Mike Stephens (1.1) came in on relief, allowing just one hit.
The Bison got on the board first, scoring two runs in the second inning, capitalizing on a leadoff single from Clark. Following a groundout that advanced Clark to second, Rawlings reached base to put runners on first and third. Evan Klugerman singled up the middle on the next at bat, scoring Clark and sending Rawlings to third. Rawlings scored on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Wincig.
Bucknell plated four in the fifth inning on five hits. Smith reached base on a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Rafferty scored Smith on the next at bat with a single to left field. Clark and Johnson loaded the bases with back-to-back singles, followed by a two-run double from Rawlings. Advancing to third aftert an intentional walk to Klugerman, Johnson scored on a wild pitch to give Bucknell a six-run cushion.
The Bison scored two more runs in the sixth, powered by a two-out double from Johnson as Bucknell captured its second straight win.
Davidson (5-4), who entered Friday with a 5-2 mark at Wilson Field and a win over Patriot League foe Lehigh, started Durin O’Linger on the hill. He pitched 4.1 innings, giving up 10 hits while being charged with five earned runs. Five different relievers pitched the final 4.2 innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits.
Bucknell returns to the diamond Saturday with a game against Butler. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
