SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Bucknell squared off against one of the best opponents on its extremely difficult schedule Saturday, falling 5-0 to No. 5 Syracuse in non-conference field hockey action at Coyne Stadium.

Bucknell dropped to 1-2 with both losses coming to teams that played in last year’s NCAA Tournament. The Bison will look to bounce back when it travels to play Cornell on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Syracuse remained unbeaten at 4-0. The Orange have yet to allow a goal this season, out-scoring their opponents 13-0. They opened the season with shutout wins on the road against Cal, Pacific, and UC Davis.

Five different players scored in the win for the Orange. Jennifer Bleakney and Caroline Cady scored in the first half, while Carolin Hoffmann, Laura Hurff, and Emma Tufts tacked on goals in the second half.

Bucknell played Syracuse for a second consecutive season. The Bison led the Orange 2-1 at the half last year at Graham Field, but eventually fell 4-3.
