ITHACA, N.Y. – Bucknell field hockey ran into another strong defensive team in a 1-0 loss to Cornell in a non-conference game Sunday at Dodson Field. The Bison’s two weekend opponents – they played No. 5 Syracuse on Saturday – are 7-0 and haven’t allowed a goal, out-scoring their opponents 18-0.

Kirsten Pienaar scored the lone goal for Cornell with assists from Isabel Josephs and Katie Carlson. The Big Red improved to 2-0, while the Bison fell to 1-3.

It was a defensive battle for most of the game as the teams went into the break tied at 0-0. Brittany Willwerth and Lexi Quick had shots for Bucknell in the first half.

Both of the Bison’s shots on goal came in the second half. Cornell goalie Maddie Henry stopped Nicole Rupnik’s shot in the 39th minute, and then turned away a shot by Willwerth just over a minute later.

The Bison went up a player when Cornell received a yellow card with 2:50 to play. Rupnik got off a shot 16 seconds later, but the Bison were unable to cash in on the opportunity.

Senior Emily Finn was solid in goal for Bucknell, making five saves.

Bucknell hosts three games in five days, starting with a matchup against Columbia on Friday.
