SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Three Bison freshmen scored their first collegiate victories during the Bucknell men's swimming & diving team's meet against Bryant Friday night at Chace Athletic Center Pool.
Mitch Gavars raced to a pair of first-place finishes in the 500 freestyle (4:49.32) and the 1,000 freestyle (9:51.49).
Matt Rakovec took second to Gavars in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall in 4:50.70.
Garrett Sommer posted a score of 249.08 in the 3-meter dive, moving up a spot to eighth in program history. He previously cracked Bucknell's top-10 by taking the ninth spot with a score of 233.63 against UMBC on Sept. 30.
The Bison ultimately fell to the host Bulldogs, 199-89. They return to the pool tomorrow when they begin Patriot League action at Boston University. The first event is set for 1:30 p.m.
