EASTON, Pa. – Sophomore Sophie Bullard and senior Stefanie Alpert combined for 31 kills and 21 digs to lead Bucknell to a 3-1 (25-12, 21-25, 25-22, 25-14) win over Lafayette in a Patriot League volleyball match Sunday at Kirby Sports Center. It was the second win of the weekend for the Bison, who upped their record to 12-12 overall and 6-6 in the Patriot League.
With the win, Bucknell remained one match back of the final spot in the Patriot League Tournament with four matches to play. Lehigh currently sits in fourth, while the Bison are tied with Colgate for fifth. All three teams split the season series with one another.
Bullard recorded a second consecutive double-double and her 11th of the season with 16 kills and 14 digs while also adding two aces. Alpert tallied a career-high 15 kills and a career-high seven digs while adding two block assists.
Those two helped set the tone early as Bucknell rolled to a 25-12 win in the first set. They combined for 11 kills in the set as Alpert registered six and Bullard tallied five. Bullard had three kills in the first five points as the Bison jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
Senior Celeste Barker wrapped up an outstanding weekend with six total blocks, including two solo. She had eight block assists in Bucknell’s 3-2 win over Lehigh on Friday night. Senior Hailey Stout and sophomore Mimi Richards finished with three block assist apiece. Richards reached double-digits in kills with 10 on .333 hitting.
Senior Luz Nagle and freshman Alexa Bonanno continued to put up nearly identical assist numbers while splitting time at setter. They each finished with 21 while Bonanno also had three of the team’s six aces. Sophomore Brooke Stark led all players with 20 digs.
Bucknell held Lafayette to a .079 hitting percentage. Sonia Musso and Christian Luhnow had nine kills apiece.
The Bison close the home portion of their schedule with matches against Navy (Nov. 3) and Loyola (Nov. 4), and then go on the road to play Holy Cross (Nov. 10) and American (Nov. 12).
