LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell's Matt Thorsheim garnered some national recognition this week when he was named to the College Soccer News 2017 All-Freshman Team. Thorsheim was a Third Team selection, making him one of the top 33 first-year players in the country, according to the publication.
Earlier this year, Thorsheim earned Third Team All-Northeast Region honors from the United Soccer Coaches as well as Third Team All-Patriot League accolades. Thorsheim recorded five goals and four assists for 14 points in his first college season while helping the Bison to a third-place finish in the Patriot League.
Thorsheim earned a starting job on opening day, and he played both midfield and forward for the Bison. A two-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week, Thorsheim scored both goals in a critical 2-1 road win over Lehigh on Oct. 25, and he also found the net against Binghamton, American and Duquesne.
He led the team in scoring despite missing the final three games of the season due to injury. Thorsheim was second on the team with 32 shot attempts, and he put 20 of them on frame.
Bucknell finished 5-3-1 in Patriot League play this season and exceeded its Patriot League Preseason Poll position by three spots in the table.
