LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell softball had two players named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team, which was released by the league office on Wednesday. Senior Meghan Kovac earned the honor for a second consecutive season, while sophomore Raeanne Geffert made an appearance on the team for the first time.

Kovac enters her final season at Bucknell with a chance to compile one of the most prolific careers in program history. She needs just three more RBIs to break the school’s all-time record, and also ranks in the top 10 in batting average, doubles, and home runs. Realistically, she has a chance to graduate as the program’s career leader in RBIs, doubles, and home runs.

Kovac has earned All-Patriot League recognition in each of the past two season, receiving a nod on the Second Team as a sophomore and the First Team as a junior. She is also a one-time ECAC All-Star.

Geffert was in the running as the top rookie in the conference last season, earning Second Team All-Patriot League status after putting together a fantastic first season in the circle. She was a three-time Patriot League Pitcher of the Week and a three-time Rookie of the Week.

In 32 appearances, including 19 starts, Geffert went 14-9 with a 2.20 ERA. She showed excellent command with 117 strikeouts to just 20 walks in 152.2 innings of work, and finished in the top three in the conference in ERA, opposing batting average (.230), innings pitched, strikeouts, and wins. Geffert posted a 1.81 ERA while making 13 appearances, including nine starts, in league play.

Bucknell was picked to finish fourth in the league standings with 38 points. Lehigh, the defending champion, was predicted to repeat, receiving 10 first-place votes and 70 total points. Boston University was picked second with 64 points and four first-place votes, and Army West Point was third with 52.

Rounding out the league projections were Holy Cross (31), Colgate (24), and Lafayette (15). The top four teams in the conference qualify for the Patriot League Tournament.

The Bison open the season with five games at the Campbell Invitational on Feb. 15-17. They will take on the host Camels twice, Morehead State, Northern Kentucky, and James Madison.
