LEWISBURG, Pa. – Nine members of the Bucknell men's water polo team earned All-Academic Awards from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC).
Headlining the Bison honorees was Jeff Hagen, who was recognized in the Outstanding Category for the third-straight year. Charlie Niehaus, who made the 2016 Outstanding list and the 2015 Superior list, was also honored in the 2017 Outstanding Category.
In addition, four Bison were recognized as Superior and three were honored as Excellent. All four of Bucknell's 2017 All-MAWPC selections, Hagen, Niehaus, Cooper Dolan and Rade Joksimovic, garnered ACWPC All-Academic Awards.
Nominations were made by head coaches with student-athletes recognized on three levels based on their grade-point averages: Outstanding (3.71 to 4.0), Superior (3.41 to 3.70) and Excellent (3.20 to 3.40). Of the 354 student-athletes recognized in 2017, 106 hailed from the MAWPC.
The Bison, who won the MAWPC East regular-season title with a perfect 10-0 record, reached the 15-win plateau for the fourth-straight season, finishing 19-12. They won all eight of their contests at Kinney Natatorium and will ride a 15-game home winning streak into the 2018 campaign. They also strung together the sixth-longest winning streak in program history, an 11-game streak, from Sept. 16 to Oct. 14.
