LEWISBURG, Pa. – Colleen Barron scored five goals and Ally Furano added four to help the Bucknell women’s water polo team cap a 2-0 Saturday at the Bison Invitational with a 13-8 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.). The Bison, who at 4-2 on the season are off to their best start since 2015, defeated Gannon 17-9 earlier in the day.

Bucknell overcame a second consecutive slow start by outscoring the Red Flash 7-3 in the middle two quarters to turn a 2-1 edge into a 9-4 lead.  The Bison have now won both all-time meetings against Saint Francis (0-1), which played its inaugural season last year and was playing its first game in 2018.

Two of Barron’s five goals came during six-on-five chances. Bucknell converted three six-on-five opportunities in the game.

The largest lead of the game for the Bison came midway through the fourth quarter when Kali Hyham made it 13-6 with 3:57 to play. It was one of two goals in the game for Hyham, who was the team’s leading scorer with four goals in the earlier win over Gannon.

Manuela Herrera tallied nine saves in goal for Bucknell. She now has a team-high 37 saves this year, including 20 in Saturday’s two games.

Shyla Lintz drew a team-high four ejections for the Bison. She now has a team-high 18 this year in just six games.

Maria Eleni Seletopoulou led Saint Francis with four goals, including three in the second half.

Bucknell will wrap up play at the Bison Invitational on Sunday with games at 8 a.m. (vs. George Washington) and 11 a.m. (vs. Siena).
