LEWISBURG, Pa. – Emily Konishi scored three of her four goals and tallied all four of her assists after halftime to lead the Bucknell women’s water polo team to an 11-8 comeback victory over George Washington Sunday morning at Kinney Natatorium. The Bison trailed by three goals at halftime, but scored six unanswered goals in the third quarter to post their third consecutive win.

Bucknell (5-2) moved to 3-0 in this weekend’s Bison Invitational and it has one more contest remaining at 11 a.m. Sunday vs. Siena. The Bison are in the midst of their first three-game winning streak since last February and will be looking to post four straight wins for the first time since 2016.

George Washington (2-1) built a 6-3 halftime advantage thanks to a pair of goals from Dara Bleiberg. Konishi took over after halftime, though. She scored her first goal of the stanza just 35 seconds into the third quarter. She then assisted on a Gigi Rojahn six-on-five goal and registered the tying score with 4:29 left in the third period.

Kali Hyham then tallied two straight goals – one of which came on an assist by Konishi – and Ally Furano rounded out the 6-0 quarter for Bucknell with her second six-on-five score in the game on an assist by Konishi.

The Bison took a 9-6 advantage to the final quarter and the Colonials never drew closer than two goals. Konishi’s final goal of the game gave Bucknell its largest led (11-7) with 3:25 to play. Konishi also won both second-half sprints for the Bison.

Hyham tallied three goals to shoulder the offensive load with Konishi. All three of her goals came in the second half.

Four of Bucknell’s 11 goals came during six-on-five opportunities. The Bison had 11 six-on-five chances, while George Washington drew just two ejections against Bucknell players.

Manuela Herrera continued her strong play in goal, tallying 12 saves for the Bison. She now has 32 saves against just 25 goals allowed in the three games of this weekend’s Bison Invitational.

Bucknell will wrap up its four-game weekend Sunday at 11 a.m. vs. Siena. The Bison are 9-0 all-time against the Saints.
