LEWISBURG, Pa. – Colleen Buckley was named the Bison Athlete of the Week after helping the Bucknell women's track and field team capture its 18th Patriot League indoor title in program history.
Buckley, who was recognized as the Patriot League Athlete of the Meet for her performance, was integral in helping the Bison secure their second-straight indoor championship.
On Saturday, Buckley won the 5,000-meter run in dramatic fashion. She stuck with Holy Cross's Jenna Gasparrini the entire way before pushing her lead to a full second at the 3,600-meter mark. After that, she never let it go, cruising across the finish line in a time of 16:55.89 that moved her up to second on the Bison's top-10 list.
On the final day, after Army West Point rallied to take a 1.5-point edge, Buckley earned gold in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:53.74 to help put Bucknell back in the lead. Buckley led a trio of scorers in that event, as she, Christine Bendzinski (2nd, 9:54.03) and Margaret Thomson (8th, 10:04.97) combined to post 19 points compared to the Black Knights' eight. That race ended up being the difference, as the Bison ultimately topped the Black Knights by 4.5 points.
Buckley and the Bison wrap up their indoor season on March 3-4 by traveling to Boston to compete in the ECAC Indoor Championships.
