NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – Four Bison and one relay team qualified for the finals on the first day of the ECAC Championships, held at the Sonny Werblin Recreation Center.

Chris Devlin swam the 500 freestyle for only the second time this season and clocked the fourth-fastest time (4:28.94) in school history. Devlin, who won the consolation finals, entered the day ranked in Bucknell’s top five in five different events.

The 400 medley relay team of Matt McGoey, Charlie McFarland, Kyle Bloom and Vince Filippini took seventh. The quartet qualified for the ‘A’ finals by outracing 14 other teams in the preliminaries.

McFarland also scored for the Bison in an individual event, taking 13th in the 200 IM. Garrett Sommer (7th, 1-meter dive) and Jimmy Rush (11th, 200 IM) rounded out Bucknell’s point producers.

Through 12 events, the Bison are ninth with 55 points. Navy (193.50), Columbia (108) and Penn (104.5) are the top three teams.

The ECAC Championships continue tomorrow. The preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. with the finals following at 6 p.m.
