HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Bucknell's Tyler Smith advanced to the semifinals in the 141-pound weight class at the EIWA Championships with a pair of convincing victories on Saturday.

Smith, a two-time EIWA placewinner and No. 2 seed at this year's championships, pinned Penn's Carl Antrassian in 5:45 during the opening round. The senior then clinched his second-straight EIWA semifinal appearance with a 15-0 technical fall over American's Kizhan Clarke, the No. 7 seed.

Smith is one of three Bison guaranteed to place at this year's EIWA Championships as David Campbell (133) and Drew Phipps (184) are alive in the wrestlebacks. Campbell, a freshman, and Phipps, a sophomore, each looked strong in his EIWA Championships debut.

Campbell scored one of Bucknell's most impressive victories of the day, upsetting Penn's Gianni Ghione, the No. 6 seed, in the opening round by a 4-2 decision. While he fell in the quarterfinals to third-seeded Josh Terao of American, he advanced in the consolation bracket with an 8-4 decision over Hofstra's Garrett Lambert.

Phipps, the No. 8 seed, reached the quarterfinals with a 5-1 decision over Army West Point's Noah Stewart, the No. 9 seed. In the quarterfinals, he gave top-seeded Ryan Preisch of Lehigh a battle but ultimately fell, 8-1. He then edged the No. 10 seed, Harvard's Kanon Dean, by a 5-4 decision to earn the chance to wrestle on Sunday.

With his pair of victories, Smith stretched his winning streak to 16 bouts and improved his 2017-18 record to 26-3. His winning percentage is now .897, putting him in position to potentially become the fifth Bison to finish a season north of .900.

Geo Barzona (125), Seth Hogue (149), D.J. Hollingshead (165), Chad Reese (197) and Brandon Stokes (285) each scored his first postseason victory in the consolation round of eight. Like Campbell and Phipps, Barzona, Reese and Stokes were making their first appearance at the EIWA Championships. Hogue and Hollingshead represented Bucknell at the 2017 edition but went 0-2.

In the team standings, the Bison are 14th with 25 points. No. 8 Lehigh (88.5), No. 11 Cornell (80) and Princeton (56.5) are the top three teams.
