LEWISBURG, Pa. – Another successful Bucknell women’s basketball season will continue with a WNIT first round matchup at West Virginia on Thursday, as announced with the release of the bracket on Monday night. The time of the game will be announced on Tuesday.
Bucknell earned an automatic bid to the WNIT with a runner-up finish in the Patriot League regular season standings. The conference received two bids in the tournament as Navy was an at-large selection.
The Bison will play in a national postseason tournament for a third consecutive season. They played in the 2016 WNIT and recorded a 74-70 win over Akron in the opening round, and then played in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
Winners of 12 of their past 13 games, Bucknell enters the WNIT with a record of 22-9, its third straight season with more than 20 wins. The Bison will make their third appearance in the tournament.
Bucknell and West Virginia have played just three times in program history and haven’t played during Aaron Roussell’s time as head coach. The Mountaineers are 3-0 in the series with wins in 2002, 2003, and 2011. Two of the three games were played in Morgantown.
West Virginia is 21-11 and finished sixth in the Big 12 standings. The Mountaineers will make their 12th straight postseason appearance.
The winner of the West Virginia-Bucknell matchup will take on the winner between Seton Hall and Saint Joseph’s.
