BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team faltered at Lehigh on Sunday, ceding a 14-5 decision.
The Mountain Hawks (11-5, 6-2 Patriot League) locked up the third seed in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament, using a 10-2 second half to roll past the Bison (3-12, 1-7 Patriot League). Haley Wentzel led the Lehigh attack with five goals while Sondra Dickey and Julianne Puckette added hat tricks.
In the first six minutes of the first half, Bucknell jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Audrey Walsh and Morgan Steinhacker. The Mountain Hawks responded, netting four unanswered goals to claim a 4-2 lead by the 18:35 mark. Walsh completed the half's scoring with 10:46 on the clock to make it a 4-3 game at halftime.
While Erika Stube found the back of the net just 29 seconds into the second half to even the score at 4-4, Lehigh quickly drew away with a 4-0 run. The Mountain Hawks closed the game on a 6-0 run that stretched from the 14:39 to the 29-second marks.
Walsh led the Bison with three points (2g-1a) while Jamie DeWitt made 12 saves. She has reached the double digits in saves in 10 of 15 games. Lillie Hunt contributed a pair of assists while Katherine Doyle paced Bucknell in ground balls (6), draw controls (5) and caused turnovers (4).
Lehigh held advantages in shots (31-20), ground balls (20-18) and draw controls (15-8). The Mountain Hawks also turned the ball over three fewer times and held the Bison to 19-for-24 on their clears.
Bucknell closes its season by hosting Army West Point for Senior Day on Friday, April 27 at 4 p.m. Before the game, the Bison will recognize seniors Doyle, Sarah Galzerano, Mary Margaret Kenney, Eve Lukowski, Corley Simons and Stube.
