LEWSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Olivia Chase and freshman Cecilia Manganello, who rowed in the stroke seats on Bucknell’s varsity eight and varsity four, respectively, at last week’s Patriot League Championships, have earned All-Patriot League honors for the first time. Chase was an All-Patriot League First Team selection, while Manganello was named to the Second Team.

The Bison finished in third place at the Patriot League Championships on Friday on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. The varsity four claimed silver medals with a runner-up finish, while the varsity eight also got on the podium with a third-place finish.

Chase, a native of Wayne, Pennsylvania, stroked the varsity eight this season after debuting in the third varsity eight as a freshman in 2017. With Chase setting the tone from that all-important No. 8 seat, Bucknell’s lead boat showed tremendous improvement over the course of the 2018 season. The Bison varsity eight opened the spring at the Cooper Sprints in March with a time of 7:45.20. Last week on the same 2,000-meter course at the Patriot League Championships, the crew finished in 6:26.72.

Manganello, a Dallas, Texas native, was awarded the stroke seat in the varsity four, and she helped that unit to the second-place finish behind Georgetown at the Patriot League Championships. The Bison finished in 7:49.03, about six seconds behind the Hoyas and ahead of Lehigh, Boston University, Navy and Loyola.

This is the third straight year that a Bison freshman earned All-Patriot League citations. Coxswain Natalie Minella was honored last year, as was Menley Denham in 2016.

Navy’s varsity eight earned Boat of the Year honors, while Navy’s Joe Schlosberg was named Coach of the Year after leading the Mids to the team title.
