BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Six Bucknell wrestlers earned EIWA Academic Achievement Awards for their performance on the mat and in the classroom during the 2017-18 campaign.
Leading the Bison honorees was Drew Phipps, who previously was recognized on the prestigious NWCA All-Academic Team. Phipps was joined by Geo Barzona, Christian Bassolino, David Campbell, Chad Reese and Nick Stephani on the EIWA All-Academic squad. Each received this distinction for the first time in his collegiate career.
To be eligible for this award, wrestlers must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.20 and participated in the EIWA Championships or posted a cumulative GPA of 3.00 and qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Of Bucknell's six EIWA All-Academic team members, two placed at the EIWA Championships. Phipps took eighth in the 184-pound weight class, missing earning one of the conference's auto bids to the NCAA Championships by one place, while Campbell finished in the same spot at 133 pounds.
In April, the Bison captured a NWCA Team Academic Award for being among the top-30 programs nationally in team GPA, ranking 25th with a 3.14 GPA. They have now been slotted in the national 30 in four of the past five years.
