LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Caroline Bixby on Thursday was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Rowing Team. Bixby, an international relations and Spanish major with a 3.73 cumulative grade-point average, progressed from a novice rower to a Patriot League silver-medalist during her career.
A year ago, Bixby was part of Bucknell’s second varsity eight that finished in second place at the Patriot League Championships. This year, she rowed in the seven seat in the 2V8, helping that crew to a fourth-place finish. The Bison missed the bronze medal by just .038 seconds in a photo finish.
Earlier in the spring, Bixby was part of a 2V8 that posted a 13-second victory at the Cooper Invitational. They also took fourth at the Cooper Sprints and sixth at the Cherry Hill Invitational.
Off the water, Bixby is a Bucknell Presidential Fellow, a prestigious honor that is awarded to less than two percent of applicants. She has studied language revitalization in the Lakota tribe and has received the Helen G. Royer Undergraduate Research Grant and a Field Research Teaching Lab Grant.
Bixby is a Principal Leader in the Bucknell Athletics Leadership Institute and was named to the Bucknell Rowing Leadership Council. She is a member of the Sigma Iota Rho (international relations) and Mortar Board honor societies, and she spent a semester studying in Spain. Bixby also volunteers as a youth mentor and advocate with the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.
The Bucknell rowing team finished in third place at the Patriot League Championships last week.
