Bucknell Athletics BIO
Karen Landis, a member of the Bucknell University staff for the last nine years, assumed a new post as associate director of athletics for recreation services beginning in the fall of 2013. Landis was appointed to oversee the critical area of campus recreation, including club sports, group fitness and intramurals.
Landis previously served in Bucknell’s Dean of Students Office as assistant director of fraternity and sorority affairs from 2005-08, and since January of 2008 she had been the manager of major campus engagements within the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. In that position, Landis was responsible for engaging alumni and developing the vision and strategic planning for events such as Reunion Weekend and Homecoming. She managed Bucknell’s Reunion Student Ambassador Program among other duties.
Over the two years, Bucknell has greatly expanded its programming in the areas of wellness and lifetime activities for students, faculty and staff, including the implementation of late-night hours at the Kenneth Langone Athletics and Recreation Center. Landis coordinates these fitness offerings, and she also oversees Bucknell’s vast arsenal of club and intramural sports. Bucknell has 21 club sports, one club-varsity sport and nearly 30 men’s, women’s and co-recreational intramural sports programs.
Landis is a 1995 graduate of Drexel University, where she was a four-year member of the Dragons’ varsity women’s lacrosse team. She earned a master’s degree in education with a focus on sports leadership and administration from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000.
From 2000-03, Landis was assistant director of athletics for business and finance at Saint Mary’s College in Moraga, Calif. She also has athletics experience working in the ticket office at VCU in 1999-2000 and as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Davidson in 1999.
