Men's Tennis Coaching Staff
Bruce Myers, a veteran coach who has led collegiate tennis programs in both the Division I and III ranks, is set to begin his second season as Bucknell's head men's tennis coach.
In his first season at Bucknell, Myers guided the Bison to 11 wins and their second straight appearance in the semifinal round of the Patriot League Tournament. The Bison entered the championship event as the sixth-seeded team and pulled off a 4-3 upset over third-seeded Lehigh in the quarterfinal round.
At the conclusion of Myers' first season, junior Daniel Wright earned First Team All-Patriot League recognition. Wright was also voted to the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
Myers spent the 2016 season as the head men's tennis coach at Delaware, where he helped the Blue Hens snap a 34-match losing streak and finish the season with three wins in its final six contests. Myers has also served as head women's coach and adjunct physical education professor at Longwood, head men's and women's coach at North Carolina A&T, and director of tennis and head men's and women's coach at Randolph-Macon.
A 1993 Randolph-Macon graduate, Myers was a three-year captain and two-time All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference selection during his career with the Yellow Jackets. After graduating with a degree in business economics, Myers entered the corporate world, serving as president and CEO of The National Financial News Services from 1993-2007 and owner and managing partner of Shoprate.com from 2006-08.
During his successful tenure in the business sector, Myers continued to play competitive tennis and was a highly ranked player in the Philadelphia area. A certified tennis professional by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA), he was the top-ranked men's 35 pro in the Philadelphia Section in 2011, the second-ranked in the Middle State Section and No. 15 nationally. He has competed in the USTA Talbert Cup three times and won championships at the 2012 Sportime Randalls Island February Adult Championship, 2011 Courtside Adult Classic, 2011 Royal Sims Tennis Classic, 2011 Friends of Chamounix Summer Classic and the 2011 Straub Brewery Clay Court Championship.
Myers turned to a career in tennis in 2008, when he was named head professional at Radnor Valley Country Club. In 2012 he became an assistant coach at Immaculata University, and later that year he returned to his alma mater and assumed the reins of the men's and women's programs at Randolph-Macon, becoming the school's first full-time head coach.
Myers has a track record of helping programs improve quickly. His initial recruiting class at Randolph-Macon helped the program improve from eighth to third in the conference. He established the men's tennis program at North Carolina A&T, while providing academic leadership that resulted in the entire women's squad making the school's Dean's List. Myers also helped the Longwood women's team to a seven-win improvement, helping him earn the school's “Coach of the Year” honor.
Myers and his wife, Samantha, have three sons: Joel, Brett and Xavier, and two stepsons: Evan and Ben.
