LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell opened its second home tournament of the season, the Bucknell Invite, with a 3-0 loss to visiting Cornell on Friday at Davis Gym. The Bison will continue play on Saturday with matches against Oakland and Buffalo.
Cornell improved to 4-3 overall behind 10 kills apiece from Carla Sganderlla and Emily Wemhoff. Sganderlla added three aces, while Jenna Phelps contributed one solo block and five block assists.
Freshman Bridgette Holland had a solid match for the Bison, who dropped to 2-8 on the season. Holland tallied nine kills with a .357 hitting percentage. Senior Kristen Parks led the team in digs with 14, while freshman Mimi Richards registered a team-high three block assists.
Bucknell started off great, jumping out to a 19-13 lead in the opening set, but Cornell scored 12 of the final 14 points to take the set and the momentum.
Oakland improved to 6-6 with a 3-0 win over Buffalo in the tournament’s opening match on Friday night. Buffalo dropped to 0-11.
Saturday opens with a 10 a.m. match between Cornell and Buffalo. Bucknell’s match against Oakland will be played at noon, and the match against Buffalo is scheduled for 6 p.m.
