KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Bucknell softball opened its spring trip to Florida with a doubleheader split against Niagara on Sunday, winning the first game 2-1 before falling 5-2 in the second contest.

The Bison are 10-4 overall and still have eight games remaining during their trip south. The next four games will be against Saint Peter’s with a doubleheader on Monday and another on Tuesday. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 11 a.m.

Game 1 – Bucknell 2, Niagara 1
Raeanne Geffert pitched a gem for Bucknell in a 2-1 win over Niagara in the first game of the day. The freshman went all seven innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and no walks while striking out seven.

Geffert improved to 5-2 on the season. She has 42 strikeouts and just eight walks with a 3.00 ERA 46.2 innings.

Bucknell trailed 1-0 before tying the game with a run in the top of the fifth inning and scoring the game-winner in the sixth. The tying run came with two outs when sophomore Ryanne Rokos singled in Marisa Alemany.

The Bison added the go-ahead run the following inning. Paulina Gutkin reached on a one-out single and moved into scoring position with a stolen base. She then advanced to third on a single by Lauren Hadley and crossed the plate on an error.

Gutkin, Hadley, and Rokos had two hits apiece for Bucknell. Halie Mariano, and Jacklyn Tuburk chipped in with one apiee.

Game 2—Niagara 5, Bucknell 2
All seven runs in the game were scored in the final three innings as Niagara split the doubleheader with a 5-2 win in the second game. The teams broke a scoreless tie with matching two-spots in the fifth inning, but the Purple Eagles added three more in the seventh inning.

Chaylen Andolino had two hits for Bucknell. Providing one hit were Gutkin, Anna Gimmestad, Hadley, Rokos, and Christina Martinez.

The Purple Eagles improved to 7-4. They have won three of their past four games.
