LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell sophomore guard Kimbal Mackenzie earned Bison Athlete of the Week honors on Monday after a terrific performance in his first NCAA Tournament appearance.
After earning Patriot League All-Tournament honors to help the Bison claim the conference title and earn their seventh NCAA tourney berth, Mackenzie lit it up for 23 points in an 86-80 loss to West Virginia in the first round in Buffalo on Thursday.
Mackenzie hit 5 of 7 attempts from 3-point distance, with four of those coming in a tightly contested second half. He scored 14 of his 23 points in the second half and finished 7-for-15 from the field and 4-for-4 from the foul line.
Mackenzie wrapped up an outstanding sophomore season. He earned Third Team All-Patriot League honors and averaged 11.9 points per game. He made a team-high 64 3-pointers and shot 41.0 percent from the arc and 83.2 percent from the foul line.
Bucknell finished the year 26-9, with the 26 victories third-most in school history.
