LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's golf team compiled scores of 302 and 317 on Monday and finished in ninth place in a 14-team field at the Finegan Invitational, hosted by La Salle at Whitemarsh Valley Country Club. Longwood won the one-day, 36-hole competition by one stroke over Drexel.
Connor O'Brien led the Bison in round one with a 2-over-par 74. He made four birdies in the round and was in contention at the halfway point before carding an 86 in the afternoon. Jubal Early and J.P. Raftery both opened with 75s, followed by D.J. Magee with a 78 and Peter Bradbeer with an 81.
Early and Raftery led the Bison with matching 78s in the second round. Magee shot 79 and Bradbeer 82. Zachary Melnick, playing as an individual, bounced back from a tough morning 18 to shoot 76 in round two.
Longwood posted 295-291 to rally past Drexel (291-296) by a single shot. Villanova finished third with a 601 total.
Jordan Boulton of Longwood was the only player in the field to finish in red numbers. His 4-under 140 (69-71) was good for a four-shot victory over teammate Nick Contini, Villanova's Andy Butler, and Drexel's Yoseph Dance. Raftery and Early tied for 24th place at 153.
The Bison are back in action on Saturday at the Yale Invitational. Bucknell is the defending champion in the event.
