BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Marta Considine finished with three goals and two assists, but the Bucknell women's water polo team suffered a 17-6 loss Friday afternoon to No. 9 Princeton at Indiana's Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatics Center. The Bison were the No. 7 seed in the nine-team field, while the Tigers were the No. 2 seed.
Bucknell (13-17) reached the CWPA Championship for the 16th consecutive season, but drew a tough opponent in Princeton, who entered winners of four straight contests, three coming against ranked opponents.
Princeton (24-3) outscored the Bison 5-0 in the opening period and opened up a 9-2 lead at intermission. The Tigers scored five more goals in third quarter and two more in the final period.
After being held scoreless in the opening quarter, Bucknell managed to score two goals apiece in the second and third periods, while scoring three more times in the final quarter.
Four different Bison scored in contest. Tegan Stanbach (2) joined Considine with a multi-goal outing, while Shyla Lintz and Emily Konishi each contributed with one goal. Konishi handed out a team-best three assists and drew two ejections.
The Bison did a great job in beginning each quarter with possession, finishing 3-for-4 in sprints.
Bucknell returns to the pool Saturday to face sixth-seeded Brown at noon. The Bison can still finish as high as fifth. Princeton will face Hartwick in Saturday's semifinal.
