Joey Lye
Head Coach

Joey Lye, an active member of the Canadian National Softball Team who has accumulated 120 wins in six years as a collegiate head coach in the United States, is set to begin her first season as the head coach of the Bucknell softball team.

“I am beyond thrilled for the opportunity to work with the student-athletes, administrators, and staff at Bucknell,” said Lye. “What an honorable moment in my career to be able to step in and lead the young women of the Bison softball program under the strong leadership of John Hardt, [senior associate AD] Maisha Kelly, and their experienced administrative team. I cannot wait to get to campus and continue building upon the strong Bucknell softball tradition that began with Terrie Grieb 39 years ago.”

“It is a pleasure to welcome Joey Lye to Bucknell and the Bison Athletics family,” said Hardt. “Joey brings tremendous leadership credentials to the Bison softball program. She has been a head coach in two different sports, and she has captained championship teams at both the collegiate and international levels. As a standout student-athlete herself at Williams College, a rigorous academic institution, Joey has first-hand experience with the scholar-athlete principles that define our varsity athletics program at Bucknell.”

Lye spent the 2017 season as the head coach at Lebanon Valley College, where she led the Dutchmen to a record of 25-15 overall and 10-6 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. It was the program’s most overall wins and league wins since 2014. Led by five players that combined for five all-conference awards and two all-region accolades, the Dutchmen advanced to the championship game of the league tournament.

Prior to taking over at Lebanon Valley, Lye spent five seasons at Stevenson University, where she guided the Mustangs to the conference tournament on three occasions. Highlighting Lye’s time at Stevenson was a program-record 24 wins and a trip to the conference championship game in 2013. In all, 13 players were named All-MAC Commonwealth in her five seasons.

Lye’s leadership abilities extend beyond her coaching duties. She has been a member of Team Canada since 2010 and has served as team captain since 2013. With Lye competing, Canada has earned two medals at the Pan American Games -- gold in 2015 and silver in 2011 -- and two bronze medals at the World Championships.

The national accolades add to an already illustrious playing career for Lye. As a member of the Williams College team from 2006-09, she was a Second Team All-America honoree, a NESCAC Player of the Year, a four-time NFCA First Team All-Region selection, and a four-time First Team All-NESCAC honoree. She batted .563 as a senior in 2009 and graduated with a school-record .457 career average.

Lye was a two-sport athlete at Williams, also earning Second Team All-Conference honors while captaining the women’s ice hockey team. She was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Leadership Board, served as a Junior Advisor and Orientation Leader, and received the Kate Hogan Award and Ephmanship Award.

Lye began her collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Williams during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. She was also an assistant for the Ephs women’s ice hockey team and served as interim head coach in 2010-11. Lye also coached hockey during her stints at Stevenson and Lebanon Valley.

Lye received her bachelor of science in psychology from Williams in 2009 before earning her masters of coaching and athletic administration degree from Concordia University Irvine in 2014.
