LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's Remington Steele has been appointed the head coach of the Welsh Senior Women's National Lacrosse Team, the Welsh Lacrosse Association announced Tuesday afternoon.
“It is very exciting to take over the Welsh team,” Steele said. “I learned so much from the players, staff, and head coach Abby Burbank as an assistant with the 2017 World Cup team. I hope my new role will help me continue to grow as a coach while expanding our international presence and recruiting outreach here at Bucknell.”
Steele, who was named the Bison head coach on August 7 of this year, has been involved with the Welsh Senior Women's National Team since 2015. As assistant coach, he served as co-offensive coordinator and worked closely with the goalies. This year, he helped Wales achieve a top-five world ranking and a seventh-place finish in the FIL World Cup.
“Remi's appointment is huge for Welsh lacrosse,” said Mel Wiltshire, the WLA Head of Women's Performance, in a statement. “His tactical and technical expertise are second to none, together with a huge passion for developing the program. It's a very exciting time to be Welsh.”
