LEWISBURG, Pa. - Mckenna Maycock scored 21 points to lead three St. Bonaventure players in double figures as the Bonnies defeated Bucknell 59-48 in women's basketball action Tuesday evening at Sojka Pavilion. Kyi English led the Bison with 22 points, marking her second straight 20-point contest.
"It was a tough one for us tonight," Bucknell head coach Aaron Roussell said. "Unfortunately we just have a lid on the basket right now. We have to find ways to score. We played pretty well defensively, but we just aren't clicking offensively right now. We think we have a lot of firepower on our end and that's our job as a coaching staff to figure that out."
Bucknell (2-3) led 29-27 at halftime, but St. Bonaventure (3-2) outscored the Bison 32-19 in the second half. The Bonnies turned a one-point advantage entering the fourth quarter into the 11-point final margin.
Catherine Romaine grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for Bucknell, which outrebounded St. Bonaventure 37-32. She also added seven points and three assists. The forward leads the team in assists through the first five games.
"We've been under 10 assists for three games now," Roussell said. "Part of that is missing shots because obviously you can't get an assist without making the shot, but also we just aren't clicking as a group right now. I take the responsibility for that. We're going to have to take a look at some things and find a way to improve offensively."
The Bison connected on just 5 of 30 3-point attempts, while the Bonnies were 8-for-15.
English is averaging 23.5 points while shooting 62 percent over the past two games. She is shooting 80 percent (16-20) on two-point shots during that stretch.
Bucknell will return to action Friday with a 1 p.m. contest at Youngstown State.
