HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Sophomore J.P. Raftery and freshman Peter Bradbeer both finished in the top 10, and the Bucknell men's golf team used a 301 team total to move up two spots to a sixth-place finish at Colgate's Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational at Seven Oaks GC. Bucknell's final-round 301 was tied for the second-best score in the 13-team field, coming on the heels of 308 and 303 on Saturday.
Raftery was the low Bison with a 54-hole total of 4-over-par 220 (74-72-74). He finished in a three-way tie for fifth place in the 72-player field. Delaware's Marc Oliveri was the medalist with a 2-under 214 (70-72-72).
Raftery made four birdies on Sunday and 10 for the tournament, just one shy of the most in the field.
Bucknell's low man on Sunday was senior John Edler, who fired an even-par 72, making five birdies and eight pars to offset five bogeys. Sophomore Connor O'Brien followed with a 77, sophomore Jubal Early shot 78, and senior D.J. Magee closed with an 85.
Bradbeer was playing as an individual in his first collegiate tournament, and he finished T-8th with a 221 composite (76-71-74). His 1-under 71 in the second round was Bucknell's best of the weekend. He then added three birdies on Sunday.
Bucknell began the final round in eighth place before leapfrogging Lehigh and Fairleigh Dickinson to move into the top half of the field.
Delaware won the team title with an 880 total, followed by Cornell (893), Army West Point (901), St. John's (902), Colgate (907) and Bucknell (912).
The Bison are back in action next Saturday and Sunday at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg.
