LEWISBURG, Pa. -- J.P. Raftery fired a 1-under-par 69 Sunday and was one of three Bucknell players to finish in the top 10, leading the Bison to a runner-up finish at the Bucknell Invitational. The team compiled its second straight 288, and its 576 total put them six strokes behind Saint Joseph's for the team title.
Wayne State also finished at 576, with defending-champion Robert Morris (578) and La Salle (581) rounding out the top five. Three other Patriot League teams were in the field, with Navy placing sixth at 583, Lafayette seventh at 588 and Lehigh 10th at 600.
Playing in cooler but breezier conditions, Raftery followed up his opening-round 72 with a 69 on Sunday. That tally was tied for the lowest in the field. His 1-over 141 total put him in a three-way tie for fourth place in the individual standings. Raftery made four birdies and three bogeys in his final round, giving him nine birdies in 36 holes on the weekend.
Connor O'Brien followed up his opening-round 69 with a 73, and he placed T-7th at 142. John Edler (71-72) totaled 143 and finished T-9th in a field of 80. Also for the Bison on Sunday, Jubal Early closed with a 74, and Ashton Radvansky shot 76.
Bucknell also had a "B" squad entered in the tournament. That four-man group posted a 313 in the final round, led by a 75 from D.J. Magee. C.J. Zachary and J.B. Thompson both shot 77, while Zachary Melnick finished with an 84.
Michael O'Brien of Saint Joseph's and Reid Bedell of Lafayette both shot 3-under 137 over 36 holes. Jordan Andrus of Wayne State was third at 140 (69-71).
The Bison are back in action next weekend at the Cornell Invitational.
