PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Cooper Dolan’s seven-goal outing led the No. 14 Bucknell men’s water polo team to a 12-11 victory over No. 19 St. Francis Brooklyn Saturday afternoon at the Bruno Classic.
Dolan netted four of the game’s first five goals to help the Bison race out to a 4-2 lead in the first quarter. The Terriers outscored the Bison, 4-2, in the second quarter to send the teams into halftime locked in a 6-6 tie.
Bucknell opened a 9-7 lead in the third quarter after Caio Jordao, Marko Djordjevic and Rade Joksimovic combined to score three unanswered goals. That buffer proved to be the difference, as the teams traded strikes the rest of the match.
Bogdan Kostic, who tied Tucker Angelo for the St. Francis Brooklyn lead with three goals, drew his team within one with 46 seconds remaining in regulation. But the Bison held on to score their first victory of the season.
Dolan, who also had an assist, shattered his previous career high of three goals, set against Navy on Oct. 8, 2016. Djordjevic finished the game with four points (1g-3a).
In their first game of the Bruno Classic, the Bison were downed by No. 5 Pacific, 23-5. Kale Ai led the way offensively for the Tigers, totaling 10 points (6g-4a). Luke Pavillard (5g-3a) and Luis Araya (3g-5a) also had eight-point outings.
For Bucknell, Cullen Jacuzzi enjoyed his first career multi-goal game while Dolan, Logan Schofield and Tommy Stupp also found the back of the cage. The Bison went 3-for-10 on the man advantage and sent 19 shots on net.
Bucknell (1-1) continues play in the Bruno Classic tomorrow, taking on No. 7 Pepperdine at 9:15 a.m. and No. 16 California Baptist at 1 p.m.
