LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell has been the dominant program in Patriot League Women’s Cross Country over the past three years, winning three straight titles, while at the same time proving to be one of the top teams academically, as well. Senior Christine Bendzinski was announced as the Patriot League Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Friday and was joined on the All-Academic Team by teammates Colleen Buckley and Jenna Farmer.

Bendzinski earned the Scholar-Athlete Award for the second consecutive season after also winning a second straight Patriot League individual title at the league held at Lehigh. The senior is a double major in cell biology and biochemistry and is now a three-time Scholar-Athlete of the Year, earning one each in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. She is a three-time Academic All-Patriot League selection in cross country and has earned the award seven times overall.

Bendzinski’s athletic accomplishments are already some of the best in the history of the cross country and track and field programs, and she still has plenty of time to add to the list. She is a seven-time Patriot League individual champion, including two in cross country and five in indoor track and field and is an 18-time All-Patriot League selection, including three in cross country. She is just the third runner in program history to win multiple cross country titles and the seventh to be earn three All-Patriot League honors in the sport.

Bucknell has now won three of the past four Patriot League Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards. Katie Jessee received the honor in 2014, and Nora Adams won it in 2015.

Buckley was voted Academic All-Patriot League in cross country for the first time in her career, but it is her second honor when combined with track and field. She finished third at the 2017 championship meet to earn All-Patriot League recognition for the second straight year and is now a six-time All-Patriot League honoree during her athletic career at Bucknell. Buckley is an animal behavior major with a 3.54 GPA.

Farmer picked up her first Academic All-Patriot League honor after she earned Second Team All-Patriot League status with a 13th-place finish at the championship meet. The local runner from Lewisburg, Pa., is also an ECAC champion, and is one of the team’s top performers in the classroom. She is a double major in cell biology and biochemistry with a 3.91 GPA.

The cross country season isn’t over yet for the Bison as they turn their attention to the Mid-Atlantic Regional, hosted by Lehigh on Friday, Nov. 10.
