Matt Borich
Assistant Head Coach (Defensive Coordinator/DL)

A standout defensive lineman and linebacker at Bucknell from 1997 to 2000, Matt Borich enters his ninth year on the Bison coaching staff in 2018.

Borich, who coaches the defensive line, added duties as the defensive run game coordinator before the 2012 spring practice. He was elevated to defensive coordinator in the summer of 2013 and added responsibilities as assistant head coach just prior to 2014 spring practice.

Under Borich’s guidance, Bucknell has ranked in the top 20 nationally in total defense four of the past seven years, including 10th in 2014 and 11th in 2017. Additionally, the Bison have ranked in the top 11 nationally in rushing defense four of the past seven years, including a pair of top-five showings. In 2017, they stood fourth in the FCS ranks in passing defense. Additionally, the Bison have led the Patriot League in total defense six of the past seven seasons, including five years in a row from 2011 to 2015.

The Bison have had three of the past four Patriot League Defensive Players of the Year in linebacker Evan Byers (2014), defensive back Evan Byers (2015) and Abdullah Anderson (2017). Anderson, one of Borich's protégés on the defensive line, went on to sign a free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears.

Since 2010, Borich has mentored at least one First Team All-Patriot League defensive lineman every season. His defensive linemen have combined to capture 15 All-Patriot League citations, including 10 First Team nods. Notably, Anderson became only the third Bison to garner All-Patriot League laurels all four years of his collegiate career.

During his time as a Bison, Borich earned three varsity letters, received the Coaches Award for Leadership and was a member of Bucknell’s class with the most wins in school history (29). He totaled 62 tackles in 32 career games and graduated in May of 2001 with a degree in economics.

A native of nearby Winfield, Pa. who played football at Selinsgrove Area High School, Borich spent six years coaching Princeton's defensive line before returning to his alma mater. In addition to his on-field coaching duties, he recruited student-athletes in 11 states, mainly in the Northeast and Upper Midwest.

No stranger to coaching in the Patriot League, Borich spent one year as a defensive line coach at Lafayette. He broke into the coaching profession at Dickinson College, where he served as the Division III school's outside linebackers coach in 2001 and 2002.

Borich lives in Lewisburg with his wife, Kelly.
